As Ontario begins the Blue Box transition to a new regulatory and operational framework in July 2023, municipalities will have different roles in informing residents about recycling before and after their transition.
The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued the Blue Box Transition Schedule, which provides specific transition dates for municipalities.
Stewardship Ontario has developed a series of videos and advertising materials with the input and cooperation of municipalities scheduled to transition in 2024 and 2025. The “Blue Boxers” educate residents to adopt good recycling habits, like rinsing and sorting materials, avoiding unacceptable items and ensuring their Blue Box is put out on time for collection.
