Blue Box Transition

Begins July 2023

We operate Ontario’s Blue Box Program for residential packaging and paper on behalf of industry stewards, helping to keep materials out of landfill and recover value from these materials at the end of their useful life.

Blue Box Simplified Fees

Simplified fees eliminate the need for most stewards to report supply-to-market data to Stewardship Ontario moving forward.

In October 2021, Stewardship Ontario proposed simplified fee setting to reduce the administrative burden and program management costs during the Blue Box transition. In May 2022, this change was approved. With the final approval, most stewards no longer need to report their annual supply data to Stewardship Ontario for the remaining years of the program, which ceases operations at the end of 2025.
