Beginning in 2014, a national, non-profit organization will start to offer a one-stop-shop for stewards to fulfill their stewardship obligations. The Canadian Stewardship Services Alliance Inc. (CSSA) aims to do away with costly replication province-by-province, which is costing business a lot in terms of resources, time and money.
CSSA will be the first national organization to provide Canadians with packaging and printed paper recycling solutions across several provinces on behalf of its stewards. As a national organization, CSSA offers stewards a harmonized way to manage multiple recycling programs across jurisdictions whether fully- or partially-funded by industry.
Stewardship Ontario will still be responsible for fulfilling provincial obligations regarding the Blue Box and the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) Program Plans, managing the supply chain, promotion and education activities, and relationships with regulatory authorities, municipalities and other stakeholders. CSSA will provide Stewardship Ontario with administrative services and support.
